STOP Teacher Exodus Please,                 United Parents!

WEST VIRGINIA!  Stop Teacher Exodus Please, United Parents!

What is STEP UP?

S-T-E-P-U-P stands for Stop Teacher Exodus Please, United Parents.  We are a Not-for-Profit, issue oriented organization of united parents and concerned citizens who want a quality education for students in West Virginia public schools.

-We research to understand the challenges in education.

-We present these challenges to our fellow West Virginians.

-We meet with local and state officials and with education organizations.

-We coordinate efforts to improve "student learning," by advocating for qualified teachers and adequate resources, and by seeking competitive salaries.

STEP UP wants to unite West Virginians to stand together for the "student learning" opportunity they deserve.

STEP UP Meeting Minutes from 8 April 2008

STEP UP "UPDATES"

The STEP UP Candidates' Forum went very well on March 25, 2008.  Each candidate was provided a brief period of time to offer their comments and/or suggestions regarding the issue of education in the state of West Virginia and how they would represent and endorse our children's education if elected.  We had a large contingent of candidates representing legislative seats, the county commission, the school board, the tax assessor and even the prosecuting attorney. There were many good ideas presented and all candidates indicated that they were receptive to investigating our critical education issues in the panhandle.

We'd like to thank all those who attended and those that were not able to attend. STEP UP, being a issue based organization, was very pleased that all the candidates (those in attendance and those who, unfortunately, were not able to join us) recognize that a quality education for the children of West Virginia is a priority. Although STEP UP will not endorse candidates, we encourage you as a citizen within your community to learn more about the candidates running for state and local office in your area.  Being an educated voter is very important as we move forward with these important education issues.

                                 ***************************

Our trip to Charleston to meet with the governor's liasion, the state superintendent, and other important senators and delegates was very informative.  We believe that establishing open channels of communication is the key to improving education in the state of West Virginia.  The legislators are working hard to make changes that will benefit all children.  Though this is a slow process, they are no less hearing us.  Please be sure to contact your legislator to convey to them that quality education is our priority for our children!

STEP UP endorses specific education issues that concern our children ONLY.
We do not endorse specific candidates!
